Abstract

This report is written with the purpose of setting the basis for future development of models and tools for assessing long-range weapon systems in air-to-air combat. The report includes a description of a general method for assessing how weapon system performance and cooperating engagement contribute to the ability of a military force to accomplish its objective in a combat scenario. The method is applied to an example in which a complex course of battle is broken down into duels where blue two- or four-ship formations engage red ghters. The results include a description of a number of combat situations with increasing levels of cooperative engagement, as well as a number of measures of merit, useful for combat eectiveness in air operations.
