Abstract

Innovation is the process of creating new ideas, products, or processes that can improve the existing ways of doing things. Innovation has become a key driver of economic growth and development, with many organizations investing heavily in research and development to stay ahead of the competition. According to the appropriation directions for 2023, the Swedish Armed Forces will also work on these issues. The definition according to the ISO 56000 standard is that innovation is the result, but this means that a process is needed that creates the innovation. This process needs a structure, a system that supports and connects processes. Open and free innovation are examples of other trends that are growing in collaborations on innovation processes. Open innovation means collaborating with external partners to share knowledge, resources, and ideas. Free innovation is about exploring ideas that are created outside the organization and that are often open to everyone. These approaches can help organizations access new ideas and expertise, reduce development costs, and accelerate innovation. Innovation can take many forms, from crowdsourcing ideas from the public to collaborating with startups and research institutions. The report is a knowledge overview of innovation research with a focus on structures and processes.
