Security Policy

Research in the Security Policy area examines security-policy developments in countries, regions, and organisations that are central to Sweden’s security. Our work includes security-policy studies focusing on Russia and Eurasia, the Nordic region, Europe, the United States, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, as well as analysis of multilateral organisations such as the EU and NATO and of international operations.

The main emphasis is on Russia, states in Sweden’s neighbourhood, and a selection of major Western countries. Outside Europe, we primarily study those parts of Asia, the Middle East, and Africa that are particularly important to Sweden. The research area also includes analysis of multilateral organisations such as the EU and NATO, which are central for Swedish security policy, and thematic issues such as international operations. The work is relevant to both civil and military defence.

The principal clients are the Government Offices of Sweden (the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs), the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), and the Swedish Armed Forces. Our experts are regularly invited to the Riksdag to provide expert testimony. In addition, our research is frequently presented at seminars, and our experts often appear in the media to communicate the results.
