Abstract

During 2003 the work to establish an environmental management system at FOI has been completed. The system is set up according to the requirements in ISO 14001 and this report is written according to the requirements in EMAS. FOI NBC-protection in Umeå has presented a voluntary trial according to environmental law and FOI Weapons and Protection has initiated an environmental impact assessment to prepare for such a trial. In connection with this assessment a polluted site has been discovered. FOI has performed a rough estimation of the remedation cost for that site and for areas in Bromma and Ursvik. The total cost is estimated to be SEK 18 M. FOI has carried through 23 environmental research projects for the defence sector during the year with a total income of SEK 14 M. The total amount of the environmental research carried out for the civil sector was SEK 21 M. Of the environmental goals at FOI are 15 listed as connected to important environmental aspects. Eleven of these 15 goals have been totally fulfilled, two more than half, one less than half and one not at all. The use of video meetings has increased from 743 to 771 hours compared with 2002. Common environmental courses for all personnel have been given in Linköping, Grindsjön, Ursvik, Bromma and Umeå. A total of 299 persons have attended the courses. This means that 80 % of the employees at FOI now have attended common environmental education
