Abstract

Eastern Africa is a region in many ways associated with conflict and insecurities. Nonetheless, a range of efforts aiming towards getting the states in the region to join effort in promoting peace and security are currently being undertaken. This report outlines the main multilateral peace and security initiatives that exist in the region. It also seeks to explain some of the political dynamics that affects these initiativesas well as the broader effort of establishing an African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA). This report is part of a series of studies on APSA and the various regional organisations and mechanisms that form part of this structure.
