Abstract

In the years 2012 to 2014 the project "IR-spaning" has studied three passive electro-optical sensor technologies; night vision, spectral imaging and polarimetric imaging. These technologies have been identified as strategically important for the future reconnaissance capabilities of the Swedish Armed Forces for operations at sea, on land as well as in air. The project has conducted both theoretical and experimental studies with an ambition to raise the knowledge and understanding of the complex chain of phenomenologies from optical signatures to the discriminative abilities of the human operator, with special focus given to sensor-related issues. The project has during the time period co-financed the FOI participation in the EDA project DUCAS (Detection in Urban scenario using Combined Airborne imaging Sensors) and in the EU project AIRBEAM (AIRborne information for Emergency situation Awareness and Monitoring).
