Asia
FOI’s Asia Programme studies security policy developments in and around East Asia and South Asia. Thematically, the research is focused on great-power conflicts, military capability and power projection, regional conflict zones, regional collaborations, and domestic political development. The emphasis is on issues of particular relevance to Sweden and Europe.
The areas and themes that receive continuous study include:
- Great-power interests in the Indo-Pacific region
- China’s military capability and power projection
- Security problematics in South Asia
- Zones of security policy conflict, such as the Korean Peninsula, the Taiwan Strait and the South China Sea.
The Asia Programme also maintains a capability to study other subjects and nearby regions when necessary, and often participates in cross-disciplinary studies with other competence groups at FOI.
The programme is based at FOI’s head office in Kista, and among its clients are the Government Offices of Sweden, the Swedish Armed Forces, and other authorities.
